SACHD - Helping Families Across Scotland

Fund Raising

It is now possible to donate to the Association online by using Just Giving www.justgiving.com/sachd

Some of the fund raising events are displayed on this page, but also take a look at the individual branch pages as each branch organises their own fundraising events. From fashion shows and quizzes to dances and sponsored events, and much more. For example the Glasgow branch page provides details of money raised at the Christmas and Ester fayres as well as other events.

Money goes towards projects such as:-

  1. Research
  2. Heart start defibrillators
  3. Supporting children and young adults with congenital heart disorders and their families
  4. Coagu check machines, which check blood warfarin levels, saving families valuable time having to visit hospitals, clinics, etc

What about Fundraising?
The Association does raise funds and tries to use these activities therapeutically. There is quite often, a very strong need to give something back (even when things go drastically wrong). Fundraising is, possibly, the most positive and constructive way to fulfil these needs and also helps to purchase those items that are so desperately needed. No pressure is placed on any member to raise funds. It is your Association so you can be involved as much or as little as you desire.

All money raised is spent within Scotland. No money goes towards salaries, as we are all volunteers.

Claire Bate reaches the summit of Ben Nevis on 26th June 2010

On April 2009 Claire Bate was admitted to Yorkhill Hospital, Glasgow to repair the holes in her heart and her mitral valve. The first operation went really well and they patched up 7 holes and repaired the valve.

However after getting out of intintensivere, she shortly returned to theatre as the repaired mitral valve was not sufficient enough. After another long operation, they managed to patch a futher 6 holes and gave her an artificial mitral valve. This was the turning point, as Claire's health quickly picked up.
On 26th June 2010 Claire reached the summit of Ben Nevis in 5 hours, and 8hrs 30mins top to bottom. Claire has raised over a £1000 for the Yorkhill Children's Foundation.

Well done Claire on your fantastic achievement!

Shona Crawford - Running for Riley.  Edinburgh Marathon 2010

Shona after finishing the Edinburgh Marathon 24th May 2010Congratulations and well done to Shona Crawford who ran the  Edinburgh Marathon supporting SACHD. All the money she raised is going to support baby Riley, born with a serious heart condition.  Shona and Riley's story can be seen at justgiving-shona-running4riley.

On 24th April the Daily Record also published a story about Riley and Shona.

Shona customised her running shirt, so it had the SACHD logo on the front and back and a photo of Riley on the back too.  Shona tells us "I put my name on the front which was the best thing I could have done as so many people in the crowd called out for me."

Edinburgh Academy Charities Committee supporting SACHD in 2010

The Edinburgh Academy has a vibrant Charities Committee which each year raises many thousands of pounds for its nominated charities. This year, we were delighted to support the Scottish Association for Children with Heart Disorders, particularly as it has helped some of our own pupils in the past.

Our fund raising activities this year have been many and varied. They included: Own Clothes Days when pupils come to school out of uniform for a donation of £2, frugal lunches when the traditional three course lunch is replaced by soup and a sandwich, collections at concerts and plays, and a Christmas Fair. The highlight of the year was a spectacular fashion show held at the end of April. This beganwith a canapé reception followed by the show itself during which senior pupils modelled top designer clothes in front of an audience several hundred.

We know that the money that we raise for SACHD will make a huge difference to the lives of many children and so are delighted that we have been able to make a contribution to this very worthwhile cause.

Charities Co-ordinator, Edinburgh Academy
