About the weekend
A weekend away for teenagers to meet and have a laugh, with great activities and a relaxing environment.
Why?
To get away from it all, To try new activities, To relax, To meet others, To share ideas.
Where?
In 2008 it was the Garden House at Netherurd House in the Scottish Borders, a purpose built holiday centre, with activities on site. It is near Peebles, a small town set in rolling hills.
Who is there?
Teenagers (12–17) born with heart disorders, and volunteer helpers, one of whom is a nurse. (Medical cover is assured by the local GP team.)
What activities?
There is a range of activities such as pony trekking, archery, ceramic painting, team building and more. We arrange activities to suit as many people as possible. Evenings are spent relaxing.
What does it cost?
The cost of the weekend is covered by the fund-raising activities of members of the Association, but we ask you to get there yourself. (Financial help may be available). Any donation you can make towards the weekend will be welcome.
How do I get there?
We can sometimes arrange lifts or put you in touch with others coming from your area. If you come by bus, train, or plane to Edinburgh, we will meet you.
About Previous Weekends
People sometimes arrive unsure how they'll get on. They leave having had a great time, with new friends and great memories. Some talk about their experiences, but not all. However, all know where they can contact people next time they want to share something, or if they have questions to ask.
Above all, people have a great time, enjoy new activities, lots of fun and good company.
- “I really enjoy these weekends. It’s been my third year and they get better and better. Best of all, I loved the friends I made and I’m going to keep in touch every day.”
- “I had such a fantastic time and have come away with friends and memories I will never forget.”
